Presentation of Tricolour and Proclamation to Scoil Ailbhe

On Friday, November 13th, we were presented with the Irish Tricolour and Proclamation of Independence by past pupil, Sgt. Kieran Kennedy, and Cpl. John Flynn. The hall was packed to capacity, as we were joined by many parents, former teachers, Parents’ Council and Board of Management. The soldiers were greeted with a guard of honour, and led into the hall by piper, Andy Cooney. Ms. Bríd Ryan welcomed all our visitors, and explained what a special occasion this was. Sgt. Kennedy explained about the protocol of the flag, and tested our knowledge of this part of Irish history. We aced this section! We asked the soldiers some questions about life as a soldier, and even life in Scoil Ailbhe!! We also had a few photos and reports to put Sgt. Kennedy on the spot. Kosovo was never as hot as Scoil Ailbhe.  We ended our ceremony with a rousing rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann, accompanied by Ms. Michelle Sutton and Ms. Teresa Bourke. Many thanks to all involved for their help, and especially Sgt. Kennedy and Cpl. Flynn.
